What is Twitter?

Twitter is an online sociol networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, informally known as "tweets". It contains online communities and societies where every twitter user can comment upon a certain "Trending Topic" worldwide or your city and those who favor you opinions in your tweet an "Retweet" your tweet.
Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. Twitter rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 300 million users as of 2011, generating over 300 million tweets and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.  It is sometimes described as "the SMS of the Internet" as many take to to twitter for citizen reporting, it has been discovered that Twitter is able to recieve breaking news before many TV Broadcasts.
