Media 2.0 - David Gauntlett

Overview of Media 2.0- David Gauntlett
  • 'Media 2.0' is an article that argues that the people of today are no longer dependent upon traditionalism and have the tendency to search for a variety of observations on specific events.
  • People will celebrate mainstream productions however acknowledge the appearances of niche products. The idea that 'The Long Tail' is continuously growing longer as more people are embracing more abstract ideas.
  • There is a newly found exposure of global media, not just the continuous appearance of western civilization. We are given a different perspectives on situations from different areas of the globe.  For example:- while watching the BBC read the headlines the deaths of soldiers in Afghanistan, you view at the same time Al-Jazeera report on the death toll of citizens killed during warfare. We are allowed to view opposing views.
  • Internet has now taken a dominance over all Media Platforms; it has become an essential tool for research which holds no boundaries.
  • The curriculum of Media Studies has become more analytic rather than passive and informational. People are required to have opinionated in order to excel in the course.
